In Memory of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena
![]() Enrique “Kiki” Camarena was one of the first Imperial County Sheriff’s Office deputies to be assigned to the task force. Camarena began his law enforcement career at the Calexico Police Department, later moving on to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office. From the Sheriff’s office he obtained employment with the Drug Enforcement Administration. On February 7, 1985, while stationed in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico he was cowardly kidnapped by Mexican Drug Cartels, tortured, and killed. This event shook law enforcement to its core, but further encouraged the task force to continue its efforts to combat the flow of illegal drugs entering the U.S. from Mexico.Several members of the task force have distinguished themselves in their law enforcement careers. Our current Sheriff, Raymond Loera, was once a member of the task force. Other former task force members have gone on to serve in other law enforcement agencies. Our current task force members take great inspiration from the history of the task force and strive to continue to make the ICNTF one of the premier task forces in the state of California. |
